October 2018 – Ten representatives from Sahabat Alam Tampik Janda Baik Committee participated in a study tour to Kg. Batu Puteh, Kinabatangan, Sabah which was conducted for 4 days and 3 nights from October 16th to October 19th, 2018. The objective of the tour was to give exposure to the committee members in terms of managing an ecotourism sites through community-based ecotourism (CBET) concept. The Kg. Batu Puteh was run by KOPEL, in which its famous ecotourism program named Miso Walai Homestay has been recognised as one of the best community-based ecotourism management, while generating yearly income up to RM2 billion. Through this study tour, local community directly learned from KOPEL experiences, increased existing knowledge and raised awareness about forest conservation, through education and extension service. The tour also acts as a good platform for networking, sharing of experiences and exchanging of ideas.
